Can elephants swim? Oh boy, can they! So exciting! A mammoth-sized swimming pool has been built at the foot of Mount Fuji, Japan’s tallest mountain, at Fuji Safari Park on Honshu island where elephants can happily splash around, using their their trunks as snorkels.

The transparent 213-foot pool, encased by huge panes of glass holds thousands of gallons of water to give the zoo’s elephants a chance to stroke as many as three or four laps a day..

Zookeeper Daiki Takeuchi said the transparent sides offer a “surprising” glimpse into how elephants move around the water, using their powerful legs for propulsion.
